SteamFest 2019
Sunday, September 29, 2019
6:00 PM— 9:00 PMUTC
Back for its second year, SteamFest, a collaborative event between the Billings Depot, Billings Library Foundation, Wise Wonders Children’s Museum, and SCRaP; is a fun, hands-on STEAM education event for the kiddos. Doubling in size from last year, SteamFest offers activities and experiments across all five learning categories: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math thanks to the four primary organizers and the new community partners: ExxonMobil, STEM Billings, MSUB Math Circle, and the Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming.
The goal of this event, says the Depot’s executive director, Michelle Williams, “…is to create excitement around learning in a fun, interactive environment. The organizations collaborating for this year’s event have created the most amazing activities! The kids are going to be blown away by what they can do.”
Looking back: SteamFest 2018:
One side of the Depot is dedicated entirely to the StarLab and astronomy activities by the Girl Scouts, while the other side features robots, math, science experiments, 3D printing, augmented reality, engineering, art crafts, and more.
As the host site, Billings Depot believes that engaging children in STEAM by creating playful and surprising “a-ha” moments for children helps to ignite a curiosity and excitement that can last a lifetime. By creating STEAM activities that foster children’s curiosity, creativity, and learning they begin to consider and explore the world around them, explains Williams. She adds, “We strive to support and foster the future innovators, creatives, problem solvers, and curious minds of Billings in support of our workforce community.”
All funds raised support the four organizing nonprofits.
