How to Throw the Ultimate Family Movie Night

November 18, 2020 | by julia morrissey, guest contributor

Throwing a movie night at home can be an excellent alternative to taking the family out for a night at the movies. Plus, during a global pandemic you may not have the option of going to a theater or even feel comfortable doing so.

Creating a night at the movies at home is a fun experience in itself. From setting the scene by using string lights to create an aisle to offering classic movie theater snacks, there are many easy steps you can take to make your movie night feel authentic.

Here are a few additional ways you can elevate your family movie night:

  • Design custom movie tickets: Invite your family to the movies by sending them tickets! Create your own custom movie tickets.
  • Make it a “drive-in” movie: If you have younger kids, this can be a great way to introduce them to the exciting experience of attending a drive-in movie. Simply turn large cardboard boxes into mini cars for them to watch the movie in! Cut out or draw on windows, and fashion flashlights to the front of the box. You can also add a steering wheel using a plastic or paper plate.
  • Create individual snack trays: If you’re offering a few snack and drink options, let the kids fill up a small box or caddy with their favorites to nibble during the movie. (Bonus points if you have the reusable popcorn buckets that ooze movie theater nostalgia. They can even be found at the Dollar Store).
  • Build a pillow fort to watch from: Create a cozy viewing experience by having the kids build a pillow fort they can watch from.
