You probably have fond memories of childhood homes decorated with special family moments and adorable photos of friends, family, and pets. It’s no secret that decorating with photos adds a certain nostalgic charm—and studies show that it may even have mental health benefits, too. But in a world where we’re all photographers, so to speak, and have access to a camera at all times (courtesy of our smartphone), how do we get these photos off of our devices and onto our walls?

Below, we share some of our favorite creative ways to display photos of our loved ones in our home.

Install a Picture Ledge

Installing a picture ledge, or a shelf meant specifically for pictures, is an easy home décor DIY for displaying your favorite moments around your home. You can find picture ledges at your favorite home décor or big box store, or you can make your own with your toolbox and a little DIY savvy. Once you have your photo ledge installed, round up your favorite frames and display the most precious photos of your loved ones. Get extra styling points by creating a small vignette with some greenery and other kitschy items.

Design Custom Home Décor Accessories

You may have heard the adage, ‘The days are long but the years are short’. Preserve your favorite family moments forever by creating custom home décor accessories to display throughout your living space. The possibilities are endless—just upload your photos and customization sites will do the rest. Your family will love to lounge against your new custom photo pillows or snuggle up with a personalized photo blanket.

Print a landscape photo from your favorite vacation or make monogrammed pieces for the kids for their next birthday and watch their faces light up when they unwrap a personalized piece for their rooms, designed just for them.

A stunning photo wall display is another great way to display photos of your family, friends, pets, and more. Opt for a sleek metal print, experiment with modern glass, or create DIY wall art that can be customized with your favorite photo. When creating your gallery wall layout, keep in mind the theme or idea you’re trying to evoke and don’t just rely on standard photo frames. Create an inspired gallery wall by mixing and matching print sizes, materials, and color.

Consider uploading your photo to a personalized gifting site and creating memorable magnets to hang on your fridge, or using collage software to string together your favorite photos into one big print. Whatever you choose, remember that they’re your photos, and it’s your home—you want to print the moments that matter most!
