Every Holiday Season in Iceland, there is the Jólabókaflóðið and This House of Books is inviting you in for our very own Christmas Book Flood. In Iceland, "the culture of giving books as presents is very deeply rooted in how families perceive Christmas as a holiday," says Kristjan B. Jonasson, president of the Iceland Publishers Association. "Normally, we give the presents on the night of the 24th and people spend the night reading,” (www.npr.org, Dec 25, 2012).
At THoB, there will be a special display of books with suggestions by age group. Throughout the month of December, THoB plans to honor this book-giving tradition with a drawing for a gift certificate to the bookstore. Anyone who purchases one or more books as a gift will have the opportunity to enter the recipient’s name into the drawing!
So, grab a book or two, snuggle up, and celebrate Jólabókaflóðið.
