2nd Annual Healing Field

Wednesday, September 11, 2019

3:00 PM 1:00 AMUTC

From September 11-14, the Laurel Exchange Club will host the 2nd annual Healing Field, held this year at South Elementary School (606 South 5th Street West). This breathtaking posting of the stars and stripes features 1,000 flags standing in solemn formation, honoring the Heroes in Our Lives.

Each flag stands in honor and remembrance of the service and sacrifices that have given us the freedoms we often take for granted. We share in the loss of lives on 9/11 and before and thereafter on battlefields. We honor firefighters, police officers, first responders, our active military and veterans, among many others with the flying of our nation’s colors.

The Laurel Healing Field® display is a gift to the community, made possible through donations, sponsorships, and the efforts of dedicated volunteers. Flags are sponsored for $50 and the sponsors retain their flag after the event. Flags may be shipped to sponsors for those unable to pick-up their flag, for an additional fee.

Funds raised through the Healing Field® flag display benefit Laurel Exchange Club, Laurel Hometown Troops, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yellowstone County—Laurel Program.

Schedule of Events:

  • 9/11/19 Opening Ceremony, 6pm- Keynote speaker, Heidi Paulsen from The Wounded Blue (Color Guard presenting the flags, a guest singer will perform the National Anthem, and kindergarteners from Laurel's South School will speak the Pledge of Allegiance).
  • Paulson is the author of Dependence Day, a book about her husband, a police officer who was critically injured during a traffic stop and his recovery. With the book's success, she and her husband have started advocating for legislation on behalf of injured law enforcement officers and first responders. She became vice president and legislative liaison for The Wounded Blue in 2018 and currently serves on the board of directors of How 2 Love Our Cops.
  • Each night will offer different activities, including flag folding, the reading of names of those killed on September 11, 2001, and the playing of Taps at dusk.
  • 9/14/19 Closing Ceremony, 1pm

There is no charge to visit the Healing Field® display. All are invited to walk through the ordered rows of flags. This is an event not to be missed.
