Closing weekend: 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' at Billings Studio Theatre

Every year, Billings Studio Theatre brings a timeless classic to the stage around the Christmas season. On November 30, they opened with the family favorite musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the beloved story of a magical car, an eccentric but loving father, a woman who is as sweet as her name, and a pair of humorous yet villainous Bulgarians. Caractacus Potts, played by CJ Jennings, is a creative inventor who does his best to raise his two imaginative children, played by Karli Van Atta and Chloe Tschetter.

The story revolves around an old, award-winning car now sitting in a mechanic’s shop. However, this car is more than it seems. Its newly discovered abilities, including floating on water and taking flight, make it a desirable item. Now, the battle to save the car, a grandfather, and a group of neglected children are in store as the Baron and Baroness of Bulgaria (Vint Lavinder, Christie Arnold) do their best to stop the Potts family and their vivacious friend, Truly Scrumptious (Vanessa Dent). This adventurous tale will have you laughing to tears at the detestable, yet very affectionate Baron and Baroness; while the rather simple, foolhardy spies (Tiffany Melia, Tavis Kuehn) will have you applauding their silly antics. The well-loved music is brought to life through dancing, including a rather enticing samba number, as well as a live band playing just off-stage.

With family-friendly humor, nostalgic music, and a heartwarming theme of family and teamwork, BST’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang offers a wonderful night of entertainment and adventure just in time for the holidays. The best part is it’s not too late to take part in this event! Performances run Thursday-Sunday till December 17. Take the time to grab family and friends and see why this show has been captivating audiences for years and how Billings Studio Theatre, once again, delights our community with their theatrics.
