Summer Reading Block Party at Billings Public Library

Going to be in or around Billings the first Saturday in August? Then you’re invited to Billings Public Library’s Summer Reading Block Party! This special event is celebrating library patron’s 2015 Summer Reading accomplishments and will be held in the library’s new parking garden and Community Room on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11am-2pm.

This celebration will feature activities and displays for everyone – families, music lovers, and pop culture fans. Families can participate in hands-on science activities, a make-and-take mask craft, balloon animals by Victoria Scott, face painting by The Superheroes of Montana, they can ham it up in a green-screen photo booth, and take in demonstrations by the Society for Creative Anachronism. Expect music as well as food vendors (Sassy Meatballs, I’m Cravin’ Bar-B-Que, Snowie MT, The Rollin’ Donut, and the Sweet Café) to be on hand to sell snacks and/or lunch to partygoers.

“One of the displays we are most excited to share is the Transportation Petting Zoo, which will showcase a police car and fire truck from the Billings Police and Fire Department, alongside four pop culture cars that Gabriel Hink of Gabriel’s Toys will be bringing in for patrons to see,”  said Reference Librarian Barbara Riebe.  Officers from both departments will be on hand during the party to answer questions about the vehicles. (Psst...The "Mystery Machine" is one of those beloved pop culture cars that is slated to make an appearance!)

The Summer Reading Program kicked off back in May with an ‘Every Hero Has a Story’ theme, and wraps up July 25. For more information about the Summer Reading Block Party, contact the library at refdesk@ci.billings.mt.us or 657-8290.
