So here it is, the middle of December, the pressure of the season is starting to weigh. Lists seem neverending, tasks seem countless, the magic of the season loses some of its sparkle in the midst of all the stress. What better way to put some of the joy and wonder back into the season than to hit the pause button and snuggle up with the babes and read some beloved Christmas/holiday tales together? With just that thought in mind, I scoured my family’s bookshelves, I picked the brains of SFM’s staff and put the call out to Facebook so that we could offer a solid list of books to add to your list of holiday must-reads.   • Santa is coming to Montana by Steve Smallman (You can find a copy at Barnes & Noble)
  • Merry Christmas, Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt
  • Merry Christmas, Curious George by Margret and H.A. Rey
  • Snowmen At Night by Caralyn Buehner (Not necessarily a holiday book, but a perfect winter read that sparks the imagination and explores a wonderful ‘What if.’)

  • The Legend of the Candy Cane by Lori Walburg
  • Penny’s Christmas Jar Miracle by Jason F. Wright
  • Mercedes and the Chocolate Pilot by Margot Theis Raven (This isn’t a Christmas book, but it has a Christmas story in it which was later written by Tom Brokaw called Christmas from Heaven: The True Story of the Berlin Candy Bomber. Fun fact: Gail Halvorsen, the pilot, is the grandfather of 3 – now grown – children who attended Billings Central Catholic Schools!)
  • It’s a Wonderful Life: A Holiday Classic by Marie Cahill (Provides background on the making of the film with large photos from the studio production)
  • The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore (We read the exact same book my Dad read to my brother and sister and I every Christmas Eve before going to bed)
  • The Bible – Luke 2:1-20
