Spell: Awesome

Last weekend my daughter accompanied 69 other top spellers from all corners of Yellowstone County, in our very own County spelling bee.  Each school sent their top speller to represent their school in this academic honor. Kids in grades 5th through 8th took the stage at 9:00am at the Petro Theatre at MSU-B.  After a tough first round, we had a break where the audience and spellers were entertained by the "Masters of Ceremonies" radio personalities from KCTR Radio.

They were an eclectic group of master spellers, some from the public elementary and middle schools, others from private institutions and home educators. It was a warm, welcoming and overall great experience for my daughter. By the fourth word, she got the bell and was out of the bee. As each child walked down the stairs after they got their "ding", they were treated with an award and a goodie bag.

The top 8 received a plaque or trophy, and the top four moved on to represent Yellowstone County in the State spelling bee. The state spelling bee will be held on Saturday March 23rd at the Petro Theatre at MSU-B. I must admit, it is pretty intense to see these a-w-e-s-o-m-e kids in action, plenty of nail biting, and gasps to keep your attention.

I want to say a big "Thank You" to the Yellowstone County Commissioners, Internet Montana, and all of the fabulous volunteers that made this an outstanding academic event for all of the brilliant kids who sat on that stage. What an experience for our youth to work hard and get to take part in this Bee. Almost as exciting, a goodie bag filled with bee-rific stuff! Congratulations to the winners of the Yellowstone County Spelling Bee and good luck at State!
