Deliciously Patriotic Brownie Ice Cream Sundaes

Adapted from www.awortheyread.com.

Backyard Barbecues, neighborhood parades, fireworks with friends and family under the stars. What’s not to love about the Fourth of July? A time to remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms, and a chance to celebrate and make new memories summer after summer. Hashtag, all the patriotic feels. And let’s just be honest. As a (currently) pregnant mama, dessert with a capital D is one of my favorite things about celebrating Independence Day. (Or most days, in general.) I think you will agree, this Brownie Ice Cream Sundae really takes the cake.

Here’s how you make it.

These ice cream sundaes are super easy to make. So easy, you really can’t mess ‘em up. They are the perfect “recipe” for allowing the littles to “help.” Because if your kiddos are anything like my three-and-a-half-year-old, this is basically her favorite thing in the entire universe. You can find all of the ingredients at your local grocery store.

You’ll want to break out the fancy ice cream bowls (or cups). I love these from Anthropologie. I use them all the time. I also love these. All you do is layer in the ingredients. Start with a small handful of red and blue M&Ms, followed by a large, heaping spoonful of chocolate brownie. This can be store-bought or homemade, totally up to you. Then add a scoop (or two) of ice cream. You can use whatever flavor you like, but I went with my personal favorite: Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. (It’s a southern thing.) Continue layering, until the bowl is full to overflowing. Drizzle hot fudge syrup all over the top, and then add a few rainbow sprinkles just for kicks and giggles. You can even add a cherry, or sliced strawberries if you’d like. Maybe a handful of nuts. It’s YOUR sundae; it’s totally up to YOU! Don’t be afraid to get a little messy. It doesn’t have to be picture perfect to taste delicious. Trust me.
