As part of 2018’s Rankin File Production, NOVA Center for the Performing Arts is bringing Quilters to the stage. First, about the show:
In the American West, a pioneer woman, Sarah, and six women, who are called her daughters, face frontier life. Rather than a straightforward storyline, the musical is presented as a series of short tales and tableaux matched with musical numbers, each presenting an aspect of frontier life or womanhood. The patches or blocks show “girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death. The patches are ultimately put together to form one dramatic tableau.
The Quilters will be directed by Gary Treglown with assistant director Lynn Al. The cast includes Carolyn Clark, Mikayla Bullman, Kristy Dallas, Susan McCaughey, Kim Shroyer, Janie Sutton, and Jane VanDyk. The music director is Kathy McLain with Alicia Thomason on the violin and Diane Hudak on Guitar. Debra Gloor is the stage manager.
What exactly does it mean to be a Rankin File Production?
Named after Jeanette Rankin, a Montana native who was the first female ever to be elected to congress, The Rankin File Production originated with Venture Theatre and is a celebration of women in the arts. The Rankin File Production either features a strong female lead, is directed by a female, or written by a female.
