Children's author Jan Brett comes to Billings

Jaaaannnn Brett is coming to town, Jaaaaannnn Brett is coming to town…

And I could not be more excited! New York Times bestselling children's author, Jan Brett, is currently on a cross country, 23-stop tour for her coziest picture book yet, The Snowy Nap, and Billings is one of those stops! On December 6 from 5-6pm, Brett will be at Barnes and Noble in Billings, where she will dazzle with a drawing demonstration and talk, followed by book signing. This is an excellent opportunity to continue fostering a love of reading for your children, build an interest in quality literature, and meet a well-known author/illustrator.  If you have children on your Christmas shopping list, a signed copy of one of Brett’s books makes a great gift.

It's entirely possible that you have your own childhood memory of a parent or teacher reading you one of Brett's books - likely, The Mitten.  My husband and I both remember our teachers reading it to us, and when my brother bought each of my children a Jan Brett book for Christmas one year, he created a lifetime memory for them too.  Now, at the age of 6, my daughter knows Brett’s work and even brought home one of her books from the school library just the other day.  She recognizes Brett’s work because of the colorful, detailed, and unique illustrations.  Brett’s trademark illustrations bring to life stories which depict a wide variety of animals and human cultures. What a gift it is that Brett’s Snowy Nap tour includes this stop in Billings!

Brett has published nearly 50 books and has over 41 million books in print.  Although many of her stories have Christmas and/or winter-related themes, not all of them do.  For example, my daughter is currently loving The Mermaid which came out in 2017; over the Thanksgiving break, we printed off one of the mermaid coloring pages from Brett’s website for my daughter to color.  If you visit Brett’s website, you will find all sorts of fun and free activities like this.  You can play computer games, print games and illustrations to color, create custom cards using some of her well-known illustrations, and much more!  Here’s the link to her website:  http://www.janbrett.com/index.html  You can also follow her blog, Facebook page, and Instagram for updates and other fun activities.
