Making Strides – Shara Ford with Granite Health & Fitness and Granite Express
by Hannah Luedt
For the Billings community, opportunities for health and wellness activities extend from outdoor attractions to memberships with local facilities. Shara Ford, General Manager of Granite Health & Fitness, is setting the bar high for the competition with a variety of programs for everyone. New location, Granite Express is holding its grand opening celebration September 17. Shara shares her passion and gives us a taste of what to look forward to from Granite.
Starting in high school, Shara became a certified instructor of step aerobics. Cheerleading taught her to engage the crowd; while motivating others she found leading to be easy and enjoyable. Her journey with Granite Health & Fitness started as a fitness class instructor while she was a member. Before long, another opportunity presented itself and Shara rose to the challenge of Program Director. Presently, as General Manager, she’s finding a new level of leadership opportunity.
- What motivates you professionally and personally?
“I’m the best I can be for my family if I keep my health and wellness in check.”
Both professionally and personally, it’s not about Shara, it’s also about her family.
- How do you ensure Granite Health & Fitness actively meets the needs and interests of our community?
“At Granite Health & Fitness, we require our instructors to maintain certification, as that provides a professional level of service.”
Granite strives to be on the cutting edge of fitness trends and the diverse interests that exist in the Billings community. Focusing on consumer needs and educating staff are the cornerstones.
- What potential did you see in the former Fitness 19 location that inspired Granite Express?
Granite Express (15 Avanta Way, Ste B) is a new business model for the company. In an effort to further meet the needs of the community, the express location will provide a facility for budget conscious individuals seeking flexible hours. Granite Express opens to new members in September and existing All Access Club Members can also utilize the new facility.
- What will Granite Express offer consumers?
Granite Express will offer a new group training room, all new cardio equipment, free daycare, extremely clean facility, and 24-hour access.
- Tell us about customer service at all Granite Health & Fitness locations.
“We offer the highest possible customer service out there! Our group fitness programs are extensive with over 120 classes.”
All facilities offer something for everyone, from toddlers to seniors. The amenities are vast and offer a sense of community where everyone feels like they are not alone. Granite has cultivated its own experience where members feel like family, are provided with encouragement, and do not feel like a number.
- In regards to community, how does Granite get involved?
Granite Health & Fitness promotes the PEAK Program in School District 2. They provide after school fitness programs to youth that might not be able to afford getting involved in other activities or club sports. Granite also partners with Billings Clinic, providing the Elite SST program (elitesst.com). Through this valuable program, local athletes are provided with sport specific training that enhances their skill sets.
