Shop Small Business Saturday 2014: #ShopBillings

We’re all familiar with the shopping frenzy that is Black Friday, but did you know about the ‘spectravaganza’ (a.k.a. spectacular extravaganza…Mash up, anyone?) that is Small Business Saturday? This year’s Small Business Saturday falls on November 29, 2014, with 44 businesses across the Billings community participating. This is up from 30 participating businesses in 2013; nationally nearly 1,500 businesses took part in Small Business Saturday last year.

Maybe you’re thinking, why does it matter? Why shop locally? Chamber Events Manager and Small Business Saturday/Shop Billings organizer, Kate Hagenbuch, explains that

“When we choose to shop in Billings and support our friends and neighbors, we are choosing to spend dollars in places that reinvest in our community. The local business owner often buys local goods and services, supports local causes, and pays local residents. Those residents, in turn, spend their hard-earned money in other local establishments, perpetuating a cycle that results in our healthy economy.”

Following, we’ve got tips for getting the most out of your Small Business Saturday (SBS) experience. Kate Hagenbuch advises participants to…

  • Be sure to purchase the Thanksgiving issue of the Billings Gazette and clip out the SBS insert. Included are area coupons as well as the Billings Chamber SBS Monopoly Game Board.

SBS Monopoly Game Board???

  • Those participating in the SBS Monopoly Game are encouraged to visit any 10 of the 44 participating Billings businesses in order to be entered to win one of the four shop and dine Billings gift certificate packages (valued at roughly $500 each!).
  • At each of your stops simply have an employee mark your board (purchase is not necessary).
  • Once you’ve visited 10 participating merchants leave your game board at the last stop.
  • Winners will be drawn on December 5. (Participants must be 21 years old or older).
  • Note: November 29 is the official SBS, but the game will run Friday, November 28-Sunday, November 30.
  • You can also snag a game card via the Chamber’s website.
