DIY Advent Calendar

With all the craziness this time of year, I sometimes have a hard time keeping the focus where it belongs during the holiday season: on faith and family. With that in mind I created this Advent Calendar to help our family keep on track this season. We hope you enjoy and find some inspiration for your own family traditions!

DIY Advent Calendar

Supplies:

  • Branch, or metal hanger
  • Envelopes, bags, boxes, sacks
  • Stickers or rub on transfer numbers 1-25
  • Glue gun
  • Ribbon, lace, buttons, feathers and other embellishments of your choice (think scrapbook section of the craft store)
  • Twine
  • Hole punch

Directions:

1. Type and print off the verses on the computer. I found a great source for 25 Scripture verses at the 36th Ave blog, www.the36thavenue.com/25-christmas-traditions/. (You could also add chocolates or small toys to each day if you would like).

2. Put numbers and embellishments on each day’s bag, box or container. I used several different bags, boxes and envelopes for an eclectic look and kept my color pallet somewhat neutral. Use whatever color scheme you like.

3.  Place verses, chocolate or toys in each numbered package.

4. Punch holes in packages and tie twine to each one.

5. Tie onto branch or hanger.

I just love the way mine turned out and I can’t wait to open the packages every day with my children! This will give us a great perspective as we begin each day remembering the events leading up to Christmas Day. Blessings to your family this Holiday season.
