Recipes to Spice Up Grilling Night

By Amanda Reasnor

It's hard to improve upon a nice, juicy steak, but these delicious blue cheese crowns take a steak from ordinary to extraordinary.  Perfect for date night in or a night with friends.  This recipe will blow off everyone's socks.

Blue Cheese Topping

1/4 cup panko bread crumbs

3 Tbsp butter, softened

1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese or goat cheese

Salt and Pepper

Mix all ingredients and form into small patties.  Place in the refrigerator while the steaks are cooking and add to the steaks the last two minutes of grilling.

Grilled Roasted Potatoes

This delicious combination of smokey, roasted potatoes and onions pairs well with steak as well as hamburgers and hot dogs.

8-10 small red potatoes, chopped into one inch cubes

2 Tbsp oil of choice (olive oil, grapeseed oil, canola oil, etc)

1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix or Wildtree Absolutely Onion Blend

Optional: extra vegetables such as chopped bell peppers

Combine all ingredients into a large ziplock bag and mix thoroughly.  Divide mixture in half and pour onto aluminum foil sprayed with cooking oil.  Cover each with foil and fold up the sides to crerate two foil packets of potatoes.  Place on the grill on indirect heat for 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.  Place the foil packets on direct heat for about 3 minutes to give the potatoes a nice roasted flavor.

Grilled Banana Boats

These delicious desserts are from past girl scout camp days.  They are such a fun treat to make over a camp fire or the back yard grill.  The soft banana, marshmallows, and chocolate combine for a sweet summer treat.

4 bananas, unpeeled but sliced through the peel and half way through the banana

Toppings such as:  chocolate chips, strawberries, mini marshmallows, graham cracker bites

Wrap each banana in its own aluminum foil boat leaving the top of the banana exposed.  Add the toppings to the slice in the banana.  Place each foil boat on the grill on indirect heat until the toppings are softened.

Enjoy!
