Reuse and Recycle - Earth Day Crafts

In honor of Earth Day on April 22, we wanted to share ways to use stuff you already had to make something new and useful. Check out these two simple yet fun craft ideas!

fossilized paper weight

1 cup of used coffee grounds

1/2 cup of cold coffee

1 cup of flour

1/2 cup of salt

Wax paper

Mixing bowl

Some small objects to make

impressions in your fossil

Directions:

Stir the together the coffee grounds, cold coffee, flour, and salt until well mixed.

Knead the dough together and then flatten it out onto the waxed paper into the desired size of the fossil.

Press your objects firmly into the dough to create the look of a “fossil”.

Let the fossil dry overnight.

Letter Magnets

used keyboard

(that no longer works)

adhesive magnets

(many kinds found at craft stores)

small phillips screwdriver

hot glue gun (optional)

Directions:

With a screwdriver and parents help remove all screws from the back of the keyboard. The keyboard should easily pull apart.

Turn the top of the keyboard upside down and pop keys out with the end of the screwdriver or another object.

If necessary wash keys in warm soapy water and allow to dry.

Break tabs off the back of keys with pliers

Affix magnets to the back of keys.
